Charles Nenner: Next Crisis Hits in 2013 When Sunspot Cycle Peaks, Predicts Dow 5,000 (Video)

Did you know sunspot cycles move in tandem with the stock market? You learn something new every day. Charles Nenner of Charles Nenner Research believes the market will "muddle through" until 2013 when the sunspot cycle peaks. He then predicts the Dow will drop to 5,000 (break the March low).

The less sunspots there are, the more depressed people are, and that in turn affects the economy. Was there a Sunspot/Dow divergence from 2002-2007? Here's the actual prediction by NASA/Marshall Solar Physics which was updated on 11/3/2010:

"Current prediction for the next sunspot cycle maximum gives a smoothed sunspot number maximum of about 66 in June of 2013."

Click on the chart for a closer view of the sunspot forecast. In the first segment, Nenner said EUR/USD will move lower as the U.S. economy grows faster than Europe. Watch the CNBC video after the jump.

  1. Charles Nenner was on Tech Ticker today: "Stocks Fine For Now But Then DOW Will Crash To 5000, Says Nenner"

He likes semiconductors stocks, thinks the S&P peaks again at 1,230, thinks gold eventually hits 2,500 on military conflict but forms a cyclical top in Feb (2011) and likes the 10y Treasury Bond during deflationary crisis.

  2. Do people really buy into the sun spot cycle / astrological predictive mumbo jumbo? I mean, how does a thermonuclear cyclic process translate into a financial process? Does the sunspot energy affect the hippie crystals somehow that tricks our minds into BUY BUY BUY?

Just because something is correlated doesn't mean it causes it.

  3. Yeah, I kind of see it. More sunspots = more hippie crystal stimulation, less sunspots = less hippie crystal stimulation. How he sees a major military conflict coming in a specific year based on cycle is beyond me. Maybe combine a sunspot cycle low and deflationary crisis and you have a lot of pissed off people in the world. He believes war and deflation will send the Dow to 5,000 in 3 years. Also, in June 2009 on Tech Ticker (google 30 years of inflation coming) he said a 30 year inflation cycle would begin in 18 months (right about now) after a "deflation scare". But now he's saying get ready for a deflationary crisis. So, does that mean the inflation cycle bottom is off by a few years? I could see a 30 year inflation cycle and 30 year bear market in bonds starting at some point. 4. He makes a major leap in thinking from sunspot activity to market activity, and that's a bit to stretched for me. Its like me saying the 4 stage Monarch butterfly cycle coincides with the boy band music cycle. And what happened to the 2003-07 market upswing as you pointed out? Was that clipped out of his equation?

  5. These sun spot cycles (# of high/low sun spot activity) seems to operate in about an 11 year cycle, give or take a year. Please I don't want to debate on exact timings. Continue reading.......The stock market cycles seems to operate on around a 15 year bull/bear cycle......with of course a few mini or sometimes larger corrections during these cycles. It seems too easy to say there must be some kind of correlation between the two (sun spots and the stock market) since their cycles seem somewhat near each other, right? Surf the web and there's lots of people showing charts and data analysis on the stock market and how sun spot activity impacts it. NEWSFLASH: what no one is saying is WHY are the sun spots affecting the Markets? Do the electro magnetic fields increase substantially during high sun spot activity, so much so, that when we are around our pc's, laptops and mobile phones we become zombies causing us to have a higher risk/reward tolerance that makes buy lots of stocks, ETF's, mutual funds we normally would not have, so there's more buying than selling in the stock market which with more buyers participating it pushes stock prices higher (basic supply/demand 101)??? Seriously, folks....stop showing me charts on how the stock market is running in a somewhat similar fashion to sun spot activity. Tell me "WHY and HOW" the sun spots activity impacts the markets. So far no one; either the scientists at NASA or the dozens of economists or financial guru's can who post their analysis on the web can explain this except to continue to show a lot of b.s. correlation data!!!!!!!

  6. Check this out: Chart 101: Sunspot Cycles & Human History

And here is another report I haven't read yet http://www.growth-dynamics.com/articles/sunspots.pdf.

I think the Fed and governments can manipulate human behavior on earth regardless of sunspot activity. But, like everything else, there has to be a breaking point (imo). The first article mentioned that the sunspot cycle mainly affects economic activity, which usually gets priced in by the market anyway before the data gets released. But I think manipulation of the money supply and interest rates can alter moods a speculative behavior. See sunspots vs. DJIA between 2002 (after bear market low)-2007, which was fueled by credit fraud and interest rate manipulation. I just don't think it can last, and I think that was proven in 2008 when everything came down a few months before the sunspot cycle bottomed. I want to put up a new video of Charles Nenner talking about the sunspot cycle. It rolled over a little bit in November (via http://solarscience.msfc.nasa.gov/images/ssn_predict_l.gif)

  7. sunspot peak ~2000 and lower high ~2013 correlates with the series of lower peaks (bubbles) in S&P100

  9. Planets affect each other. The universe is interconnected, and therefore I would assume that if they move according to each other why wouldn't humans be affected by them as well. Since we belong to the universe. Each magnetic push pull of the sun or other planets causes our planet to push and pull tides, erupt volcanoes, and even cause earth quakes. Animals can sense these and Im sure humans can also but in a subconscious level.

  10. War also occurs in cycles. Just like seasons humans have their ups and downs. Seasons affect agriculture, and agriculture affects harvest, harvest affects business, and business affects employment, employment affects social behaviour and social behaviour affects relationships. You can throw the sunspot anywhere in that opinion and try to figure out how it affects us all. Im not an expert but this has been studied in the past by our decendants and have progressed into how we come up with new technologies and future progression.
