Last year, nearly 3,000 people were shot in Chicago, and so far every month in 2016 has seen more violence than in 2015, according to data from The Chicago Tribune.
These numbers come after a violent Fourth of July weekend in Chicago. Four people were killed and 62 were injured from gun violence. Last year, 10 people were killed in shootings over the holiday weekend.
