Protesters march after Trump announces transgender military ban in San Francisco

Around 1000 people rallied in response to US President Donald Trump's Twitter announcement that transgender people would be banned from serving in the US military in San Francisco, Wednesday.

Protesters marched from Castro District to City Hall in the evening, following the morning declaration from the president. Similar protests took place across the country.

"I just felt more like a second class citizen" said one protester, "if i'm in the military fighting for my country they're supposed to support me back" said another in a speech to the assembled crowd.

In a series of tweets, Trump claimed that he had come to his decision through consultation with generals and military experts. He said, "Our military must be focused on decisive and overwhelming victory and cannot be burdened with the tremendous medical costs and disruption that transgender in the military would entail."
